Mattupetty Dam is a concrete gravity dam, constructed between 1949 and 1953 for the purpose of conservation of water and for hydroelectricity generation. The dam is a haven for many wild animals and birds due to its constant water availability.
Nestled within the hills of Munnar, this hill station is situated at a height of 1,700 m. Here you can enjoy the view of the green valleys and feel the fabulous climate around. The most attractive part of Mattupetty dam is its still water which reflects the tea garden around.
In the vicinity of the dam is a beautiful lake where you can enjoy a serene boat ride on the calm waters and engage yourself with water sport activities. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Idukki, has made arrangements for the people to enjoy different boating facilities like speed launch, slow speedboat, pedal boat, rowboat, and motorboats. Boating in Mattupetty Lake is a memorable experience. This place is also famous for Eucalyptus Oil, which is sold near the dam.
